At about 9.5 - 10 months, our daughter seemed to be dragging on the level 3 nipples. While ultimately, the level 4's are working fine for her now, she had a little trouble with the adjustment as they do flow significantly faster than the threes. Just by way of an example, if the bottle tips over, milk will start coming out. So be aware before you just tip the bottle back in your baby's mouth, as the milk will be flowing! We got her used to the change by keeping the bottle very flat at the beginning so that it wasn't just pouring in her mouth. After a few feedings, she was good to go.
We have used Dr. Brown's nipples through all the stages and recommend them.

These were needed when my daughter needed to move on to the next nipple level. I absolutely loved the Dr. Brown's bottles and would recommend them to EVERYONE! Now we've moved on to sippy cups and her Dr. Brown's sippy cup is her favorite. I read some "iffy" reviews about them but wanted to try them anyway...glad I did!
