Customer Reviews
My son was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for months following his premature birth. During that time, he developed severe reflux, due in part to the fact that he had a nasal gastric tube always in his nose, sliding into his stomach, preventing the sphincter from closing. The neonatologists (read: experts on newborn babies with problems) placed him on riced formula and ultimately the maximum dosage of Zantac to control the pain, reflux, and assist with feeding. (He had a feeding aversion due to the pain.) We constantly had problems with the feeding equipment - the regular cross-cut nipples stocked by the hospital clogged. Nurses would cut the one-use nipples, doing it just right about 5% of the time and too little or too much the remainder of the time. It was a never-ending issue, preventing my son from going home. Until a nurse suggested Dr. Brown's and their Y-cut nipples. Within 2 weeks of changing to the new bottles and nipples, my son was discharged with no feeding aversion and the reflux in check. I'm not saying it is all due to the bottles; however, Dr. Brown's products definitely were the cherry on top. He is now feeding well, gaining weight well, and goodness, I need some new nipples!
My baby also has to have cereal thickened formula for his really bad reflux (as ordered by his doctor i might add). These nipples work great as long as the formula is too thick to use in a regular stage 1 or 2 nipple. The only problem i have found with these nipples is that you have to be gentle when you are using a nipple brush to clean them so that you don't tear the y-cut opening.....2 of our nipples tore at the cuts causing the hole to become larger. But gentler cleaning and checking the nipples before each use has remedied this problem. Also want to add that my son started using these nipples at the age of 2 months and has had no problems sucking from them.
